The Hershey Mountain Bike Team and the Dauphin Composite Mountain Bike Team are interscholastic mountain bike teams comprised of boys and girls in grades 6 – 12 from Derry Township, Lower Dauphin, and Central Dauphin, and Palmyra school districts. Originally founded in 2019, The Hershey Composite Mountain Bike Club ("Composite" meaning made up of more than one school district) has grown each year. In 2022, the Club expanded to two Teams, one for Derry Township and one for the surrounding districts. Two teams, but still one club.
We are members of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League (PICL) which is a member of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
Guided by coaches, team members learn bike handling and bike maintenance while focusing on fun and safety. Team members train, practice, and learn together and support each other, especially on race days. While racing is encouraged, it is not a requirement to be a part of our team.
Our coaches have decades of mountain bike experience and are all trained and certified by our parent organizations PICL and NICA. There are 3 levels of NICA certifications for our coaches, allowing for a broad range of support to the team by our coaches.

Our Teams share in the mission of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League by working to establish a climate that will:
Provide students who have the desire to mountain bike with the coaching and camaraderie that will help them achieve both competitive and non-competitive cross-country mountain biking goals in a safe and enjoyable manner
Develop an awareness of what it is to be an amateur athlete that is both gracious and respectful to their community
Create an environment in which they may discover new friendships and find role models
Guide students towards learning new skills and disciplines, and spread the foundations of mountain bike racing across the U.S.
Foster a responsible attitude toward the use of trails and wilderness
Promote the value of cycling to our community as a mode of transportation and as a life long sport
Open Registration begins April 15th. Practices start July 1st. Race Season is September and October. Practices are two to three times a week. Local training grounds in the Hershey area are used for technical instruction. Local and regional trail systems are used for the application and practice of those learned skills. Off-season provides opportunities for informal group rides and service projects through trail maintenance programs.
The Core Values of NICA & PICL are:
Inclusivity: no bench-warmers, every finish counts
Equality: no try-outs; everyone rides
Strong Body: lifelong fitness and good health start here
Strong Mind: NICA student-athletes are students first
Strong Character: work hard, play fair, respect others and community

Youth mountain bike racing is quickly growing in Pennsylvania! The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) now has a school age specific mountain biking racing league in Pennsylvania. NICA was formed in 2009 based on a Northern California league that has been in existence since the late 1990's. The league in Pennsylvania , formed in 2016, is named the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League (PICL). Pennsylvania is one of 31 states that have established a statewide scholastic mountain bike racing league.
