Common
questions.

Have another question?

Ask our team
Does my student need mountain biking experience?

No mountain biking experience is required. Coaches teach the skills riders need and help students develop confidence at their own pace.

Does everyone have to race?

No. Racing is encouraged for riders who want to try it, but it is never required. Learning skills, exploring trails and supporting teammates are all part of the team experience.

Which team would my student join?

Hershey serves the Derry Township School District. Dauphin Composite serves Lower Dauphin, Central Dauphin and Palmyra school districts. Both teams practice and ride together. Contact us if you're unsure about your student's school.

When does the season take place?

Preseason activities usually begin in spring, regular practices begin in July and league events take place in the fall. Registered families receive detailed schedules and updates in TeamSnap.

How often do riders practice?

The team typically practices two to three times a week, with some weekend trail rides. Check TeamSnap for the current schedule, locations and availability requests.

Do we need an expensive bike?

You need a mountain bike that fits your student and is in safe working order. Ask a coach before buying equipment you are unsure about, and contact us if the cost of a suitable bike is a concern.

Can parents get involved?

Absolutely. Parents and other volunteers help with coaching, events, meals, equipment, fundraising and more. Adults who ride with students as coaches complete NICA's training and licensing process.
