3 Steps to Joining the Team

1) COMPLETE TEAM REGISTRATION

The first step to join our Team is to fill out the online Team Registration Form.  Riders will be accepted on a first come first served basis, as there are no try-outs. This registration step requires a $150 fee. This includes team race jersey, team tech-t, support, use, and maintenance of team equipment, Team League Registration fee, certain snacks, race day support and instruction from knowledgeable coaches.

*An option for credit to the Team Store will be issued for Practice Jersey in lieu of issued tech shirt.

Team fee can be reduced through securing Team Sponsors!

2) COMPLETE LEAGUE REGISTRATION

NEW RIDERS: After team registration, new riders will receive an invitation to PitZone (the league site for teams and riders). Upon receipt of the email invitation, follow the link and proceed with league registration and league fee payment. The fee covers insurance, league infrastructure, and optionally race registrations. 2 Steps to Becoming a Coach

1) Learn about Coaching

Mountain Biking is just as fun for the coaches as it is for the students. Volunteer Coaches are the core of our Mountain Biking Team. Not only do they receive training on how to teach basic skills, they also provide safety and fun to the students. Talking with the head coach or hanging out with the coaches at a practice is a great way to see how awesome it is to be involved. Our Team can only grow if we have the coaches to support the athletes. Not every coach can make every event, so we need a robust pool of coaches to keep proper coach to rider ratios at every practice, trail ride, and race.

2)Train to be a Coach

All volunteers that work with the athletes are required to obtain a NICA Certification License at one of three levels:

Level 1 Certification:  Level 1 coaches help during practices and can sweep (follow a group of riders) on the trail.

Level 2 Certification: Level 2 coaches lead and teach skills and drills during practices and are our ride leaders during trail rides.

Level 3 Certification: Level 3 coaches perform duties much like level 2 coaches but likely serve as team leaders (Head Coach, Team Directors etc...)

Skilled and dedicated NICA volunteers are the most important aspect of NICA interscholastic mountain bike teams.  A NICA volunteer puts the safety and overall well-being of their student-athletes as the first priority.  NICA volunteers are role models and teachers who are open to learning the best practices of youth mountain bike coaching and actively work to hone their leadership skills.
